Macrame
Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting (rather than weaving or knitting) techniques.
The primary knots of macramé are the square (or reef knot) and forms of "hitching": various combinations of half hitches. It was long crafted by sailors, especially in elaborate or ornamental knotting forms, to cover anything from knife handles to bottles to parts of ships.

Understanding Materials
Before starting macramé, it's important to grasp the basics: learn essential knots, understand different cord types and appreciate tension for structure. We also learnt where we could get suitable macrame cord from shops in the area and what to look out for when selecting our cord.

Knots
In our macramé workshop, we focused on mastering two key knots: the square knot and the lark's head knot. With hands-on guidance, we learned how these knots create structure and attachment points. Applying our new skills, we crafted a complete hanging basket, using the square knot for sturdy netting and the lark's head knot for secure attachments.

Personalisation
We discussed the art of incorporating beads into our macramé projects. Beads can add texture, color, and a touch of personalisation to our creations, enhancing their visual appeal and allowing for endless creative possibilities. We also discussed making belts, bag straps and key rings using the knots we had practiced.
